Why travel with OVA?
AT OVA we believe travel enriches. We have traveled the world on our own and as experienced guides. We the founders and the program leaders have years of experience designing programs, working with travelers, making arrangements, developing itineraries. We not only believe in the transformative power of travel as “ A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions“ (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.) but also believe in the words of John Steinbeck that:” many a trip continues long after movement in time and space have ceased.“ Travel changes the traveler, travel creates memories and in creating memories helps one remember one’s life. And then once one is home again telling loved ones and friends about ones recent adventures one realizes too that travel makes one happy (link to New York Times article)
Based in South Tyrol and Israel, our proximity to the travel destinations that are featured on our site means we’re well positioned to develop itineraries most suited to your interests. It’s our extensive local and regional knowledge that sets us apart from many other tour operators. And while you’ll enjoy pre-planned excursions at each destination, you’ll also have plenty of time to explore each area individually, at a pace that appeals to you.
Carefully designed itineraries
We design every OVA trip. We work with local accommodations and local guides to include some of the classic experiences each place offers as well as a few local off-the-beaten track experiences.
Group size. We keep our group size to a maximum of 12 people in order to maintain the greatest possible flexibility and to maintain ease of travel.
Traveling as a member of a special interest group tour has several advantages over traveling individually. First, it is a great way to meet people. This is especially true if you travel on a special interest itinerary where group members share similar interests. Meeting people who share your interests is not always easy in daily life, but a group tour makes it easy to encounter like-minded people from all over the world. Second, on a special interest group tour, visits to places not open to individuals can be organized. The most memorable visits are often the sites that are not accessible to the general public. Third, there are many places on earth that capture our interest, but there are obstacles such as lacking foreign language skills or too many unknown factors that are difficult to overcome when organizing such a trip. As travelers all know, planning a trip and working out all the details is very time consuming and if time is limited, one may not have the time to thoroughly plan a trip or to make the inevitable mistakes. On a group tour, the planning is left to the experts, accommodation, travel, visits to important and out of the way sites are arranged and not speaking the foreign language does not hamper one’s experience.
At OVA we believe in promoting responsible, sustainable tourism.
- We do our utmost to enrich the local economy by staying in places owned and run by local inhabitants, eat in restaurants which serve food grown and sold by local farmers as much as is possible
- Whenever possible we use local transportation or walk to minimize damage to the environment
- We take you to sites of cultural importance so that you can learn about the local culture
- We arrange visits to local farms, cooking classes, visits to family run sites of interest, and hire local guides for visits to museums, the “Klettersteig” mountain hike all of which facilitate meeting and interacting with the local population
